Martin Carthy is one of the finest guitarists in the world and his daughter, Eliza Carthy, is as fine a singer and fiddler as you’re likely to find anywhere. Both are incredible story tellers and when they sing the old Scots and English ballads, it will curl your hair. Martin married into the illustrious Waterson family and sang with them for many years.
Eliza joined her parents a couple of decades ago. They don’t come to California often often, but don’t miss them. Norma, Eliza’s mom and Martin’s wife, is no longer touring with them,
but her daughter has learned well. Martin played with Pentangle and Steeleye Span back in the day. Both Martin and Eliza have strong solo careers. You can find their music on YouTube. Check them out and support this deeply rooted British music appearing here once a decade (if we’re lucky). 7pm show www.FreightandSalvage.org 2020 Addison St, Berkeley 4/5/15.
