Two people associated with Oakland’s Sing Thing Family Singing have picked up Local Hero Awards for 2013 for community service in District 4 of Oakland. As a 2011 award recipient I understand what an honor it is to be nominated by members of your community.
Laura Nicodemus helps Maxwell Park by putting together the annual “Scarekids” in the park, contributing to the incredible mosaic project and participating on the Friends of Maxwell Park NAT.
Robin Goodfellow, in who’s living room Sing Thing Family Singing began in 1974, and who has been teaching music and art in Oakland for at least 45 years if not longer, picked up this year’s award for the performing and volunteering she does through the Dimond Library, Oaktoberfest, the community annual Dimond Park Holiday party and much much more. She continues to bless the community with her unique artistic talents.
