Every Year our Oakland based women’s Balkan and Eastern European singing ensemble does some really gorgeous concertizing at the Holiday Season. They have branched out into composing and singing some very fine liturgic music and they represent music from many winter traditions from around the world.
They also offer a Community Sing here in Oakland especially for the Oakland community. There is no charge for this, but the music is not what most people think of in terms of “sing-a-long”. It is drawn from their repetoire and is sophistocated and not simple. I think it is possible to take it as far as you can and listen when it is too challenging. Last year there was a whole row of children and many of them did just fine. So can you. There was tea and cookies, too. It’s being held this year on sunday December 9th 5 to 7 pm, Niles Hall, Preservation Park in Oakland.
