Those who have attended California Revels in past years remember Wendell Brooks, a large man with a wonderful bass voice. Wendell Brooks led us through Dona Nobis Pacem and taught us the Sussex Mummer’s Carol so we could participate in singing with the company. He was a great resource for 40 years collecting and performing African American slave songs, American folk songs, singing from the classical repertoires and was a soloist at St. Clements Episcopal Church. No one who has been to Revels can forget his imposing presence and his wonderful voice. Fred Goff, who has been with Revels for many years and is a fine singer will be leading Dona Nobis Pacem and Sussex Mummer’s Carol. The California Revels this year is dedicated to the memory of Wendell Houston Brooks. Rest in Peace. We, the yearly audience, will all miss you and we are so glad that you have been part of our Holiday season for so many years.
